For superlative fruits and vegetables, Friske Orchards has no peer.  The 40 minute drive south on US 131, with magnificent panorama of Grand Traverse Bay all along the way, eminently worth the trip.

Located 12 miles south of Charlevoix, on US 31, excursion to Friske Orchards is no mere farm-market stop.  Prepare to spend the morning - or afternoon.

The cafe and bake shop open at 8.00 am every day.  In addition to variety of produce and baked goods, the Friske spread has two magificent retail shops: its General Store and Country Haus.  Hand-crafted treasures for every room in the house; imports from collection of artisans all over the world.

Some of the member wineries from the Leelanau Peninsula Vinters Association contribute generously to both spring and fall mushroom weekends, sponsored by Springbrook Hills.

• Shady Lane Cellars, which produce award-winning Reislings (dry and sparkling) and Chardonnays.
• Ciccone Vinyards and Winery - where the harvest and wine-making is all done by hand, and whose 2002 Gewurztraminer took the gold medal at last year's Tasters Guild International, along with silver and bronze medals for Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, and Dolcetto.
• Chateau Fontaine, which boasts nearly two dozen acres of grapes, including Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Pinot Noir, and Merlot, among others.
